During the attack on the Central Regional Military Command inside Royal Palace, Mandalay City, using short-range rockets, Deputy Commander-in-Chief Soe Win was present, and seven people, including his personal assistant, were killed, according to reports.
On September 3, around 4 AM, revolutionary forces launched ten 107mm short-range rockets at the Central Regional Military Command (La Pa Kha), with seven of them hitting their targets, according to a statement by Brave Warriors for Myanmar (BWM).
“The rockets struck key areas of Lapakha. Deputy Commander-in-Chief Soe Win was there during the attack. It wasn’t a planned strike, just a coincidence. We’ve heard that Soe Win has since left for Naypyidaw by helicopter,” said a spokesperson from Brave Warriors for Myanmar (BWM) to MPA.
The attack resulted in the deaths of seven military personnel, including Soe Win’s personal aide, a Colonel, and three other officers. A total of 18 were injured, four of whom were reported to be in critical condition.
“Due to the heavy casualties on their side, the palace has been completely locked down. We’ve also heard that junta soldiers inside the palace have had their phones confiscated. It seems like they’re trying to impose a communication blackout, making it difficult to get further internal information,” the spokesperson added.
The military launched artillery strikes in retaliation, which may have hit civilian houses, according to reports.
“We didn’t cause any damage to civilian houses. However, every time we launch short-range rockets, the military retaliates with artillery fire. We’re not sure how many rounds they fired back as we were retreating, but we heard at least two strikes. Our forces have safely retreated after the attack,” the spokesperson said.
The assault on the Central Regional Military Command (Lapakha) had been in preparation for two months, and this was the second such attack, the first attack conducted in December 2023. The recent attack was carried out by the Shadow Mandalay group under the planning of the Brave Warriors for Myanmar (BWM), according to reports.
MPA could not independently verify the casualties of the military personnel.
