It is reported that after revolutionary forces seized three military outposts in Tigyaing Township, Sagaing Region, the junta launched over 100 airstrikes in retaliation.
On August 21, the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and allied forces captured three junta-controlled outposts located in Myataung which is across the river from Tigyaing. Following this, the military responded with a series of airstrikes, according to local military sources.
“On August 20, the military launched airstrikes where there were no ongoing battles. After losing Myataung, they escalated the intensity of the attacks,” the source told MPA.
In the morning, afternoon, and late evening of August 21, the military carried out 18 bombing runs using jet fighters and Y-12 aircraft, dropping over 100 bombs on the Tigyaing and Myataung area. Moreover, at 2:30 AM on August 22, fighter jets conducted two additional bombing raids, according to Tigyaing Revolution-TR.
The extent of damage to people and infrastructure from these airstrikes has not yet been confirmed.
On August 20, the military conducted three airstrikes using 500-pound bombs and dropped 67 bombs using Y-12 aircraft on villages near Tigyaing, despite no active fighting occurring at the time, according to Tigyaing Revolution-TR.
