According to the locals, SAC’s army operated airstrikes on Laiza city which is the KIA headquarters after their strategic bases had been captured.
KIA seized Lamaung base located at the highest peak of the mountain of no.6 battalion, no.9 brigade of KIA, Hpakant township, Monghnyin district, Kachin region at about 9:00 AM, 15 August 2024.
“Lamaung base is the highest in Hpakant. It is crucial for SAC. It was attacked yesterday morning (14 August). Now, just 5 SAC’s military bases that named Hsengtaung, Hpakant, Tawhmaw, Kanhsee and Aungbarlay,” a Hpakant local told MPA.
After that Lamaung base was seized, SAC’s army attacked Laiza city which is KIA headquarters by jetfighter at about 3:00 PM today (15 August).
“The jetfighter flew at about 3:30 PM. We still hear jet fighter sounds for about half an hour. When it went on China’s side, China’s side shot it back. I don’t know where it was bombed and the extent of casualties,” a resident of Laiza said.
SAC’s army, which was seriously been attacked in the battle of No. 437 light infantry battalion Momauk, operated airstrikes at Sihat and Komlawa villages, Momauk township, and Mai Sak Pa village is located between Laiza city and Nam San Yang village at about 1:00 AM, 8 August 2024 (night of 7 August).
In that airstrike, SAC’s army utilized 2 jet fighters and Y-12 military transport aircraft simultaneously.
A local church, civilians’ houses and cattle were damaged and more than 10 local residents were injured due to these airstrikes.
“That night, they were bombing continuously at around 1:00 AM. A pregnant woman was injured at her feet by a shell. There were about 10 people who were injured that night,” a local resident said.
Currently, KIA has been operating an offensive to no.437 light infantry battalion Momauk which is a garrison for 23 days (starting from 24 July till 15 August) and no.21 operation command Bamaw has been reinforcing by firing artillery so that the condition is still intense between two sides.
The battles that had been pausing for flooding in Kachin State for more than a month were resuming in Bamaw, Momauk, and Myitkyina townships from 24 July and the Northern Command was also reinforcing intermittently by artillery aimed at Waimaw city.
MPA has been facing a few difficulties in inquiring the detailed on-ground information due to the mobile phone and internet connection blackout across the Kachin region since 21 July.
While KIA has been operating the offensives at the SAC’s military bases since 7 March 2024, Loije which is a border trade city, N Jang Yang, Sumprabum, Sinbo, Sadon, Myohla, Mabein, and Dawt Hpun Yang including over 200 military bases have been seized currently.
Since SAC’s army operated an airstrike at Mung Lai Hkyet war refugee camp located near Laiza city on 9 October 2023, nearly 30 local residents including the children died and more than 60 people were injured.
