It is reported that since August 6, the detained family members of junta soldiers from Northeastern Regional Military Command (YaMaKha), based in Lashio, Northern Shan State, have been set free.
Around 300 family members of junta soldiers, who have been captured after MNDAA-led revolutionary forces successfully took over the Northeastern Regional Military Command, were released on the morning of August 6. The captured junta soldiers are being well taken care of in accordance with the convention relative to the treatment of the Prisoners of War (POW) as reported by the military source.
“Yesterday, family members of the military council were released . There are about 300 of them. We will continue to release more daily. The soldiers of the military council are being well taken care of in accordance with the protocols for Prisoners of War. There are approximately 2,000 family members in total,” the source told MPA.
It is also reported that SSPP/SSA (Shan State Progressive Party/Shan State Army) cooperated and assisted in the release of the family members from the Northeastern Regional Military Command.
On August 3, MNDAA and allied forces seized the territory of the Northeastern Regional Military Command, capturing thousands of surrendered soldiers and family members.
The commander of the Northeastern Regional Military Command, Major General Soe Tint, the regional chief of staff, Brigadier General Than Htin Soe, and the commander of the No. 1 Military Operations Command, Brigadier General Myo Min Htwe, were also captured by the MNDAA.
