Reports indicate that military battleships have traveled up the Chindwin River from Monywa in Sagaing Region, causing evacuations among residents living along the riverbanks.
As of today (August 1) at around 7 AM, 17 military battleships have traveled up the Chindwin River from Ahlone Port, firing heavy weapons randomly. Because of this, civilians living in the eastern part of Yinmarbin Township and those living along the riverbanks in Kani Township have been evacuating to safer locations, according to a PDF member in Yinmarbin Township.
“They have passed Yinmarbin and are now in Kanbalu. They have been firing randomly, so local people are fleeing out of fear of being hit. Currently, people from Yinmarbin and Kanni are evacuating,” the source told MPA around 9:30 AM today.
It is likely that these battleships are heading towards Kani Township, transporting supplies and materials to repair Kani Bridge, according to the source.
“We’ve heard that they might be delivering materials for a bridge site in Kani and also supplies for the troops. That’s what we’ve heard,” the source added.
Around 9:30 AM, the battleships arrived at Kani Township and there have been no reports of attacks by PDF forces.
