It is reported that due to the overflow of the Moebye Dam, more than 10,000 internally displaced persons (IDPs) have been seeking further shelter in safer areas.
A resident from an IDP camp in Moebye, Shan State, reported that the continuous rainfall since July 24 till July 30 (Today) has caused Moebye Dam to overflow.
“Over 3,000 households of IDPs are temporarily living along the non flooded areas on the banks of Belu Creek. The estimated number of displaced people is over 10,000, and they are in trouble due to the flooding,” the source told MPA.
The flooding has submerged over 5,000 acres of farmland and caused significant losses to fish ponds in Moebye as stated by a member of the local revolutionary force in Moebye.
“Currently, we are in need of more support and supplies for the flood victims rather than rescuing. Although IDPs have found temporary shelters, it is difficult for them to access food and water due to the flooding,” the source noted.
MPA has investigated that the IDPs in Moebye Township are in urgent need of drinking water, medicine, and food supplies, with reports of illness among the displaced population.
