It is reported that battles are intensifying near Kyaukdata Village, approximately two miles from Madaya downtown, with the junta air force conducting airstrikes.
The MDY PDF announced on July 16 that they have been striking to wrest the Kyaukdata camp in Madaya Township out of Junta’s control and the fighting remains intense as of today (July 18), according to a local resident.
“There has been fighting for the past few days. As of today, the clashes continue. The military frequently conducts airstrikes, both yesterday and today. The civilians are evacuating,” the resident told MPA.
It is reported that the junta’s air force conducted four airstrikes up until 2:30 PM today.
“We can only hear the sounds. I’m not sure if the fighting is getting closer to the town, the internet is down, and phone connections are unstable, with only one mobile operator network working,” the resident continued.
On July 17, airstrikes were also conducted around Kyaukdata Village and South Tangar Village, where the fighting occurred. MPA is still investigating whether there were any civilian casualties.
The MDY PDF announced on July 16 that they had captured a total of 28 military camps, including the Alpha Cement Factory camp and South Tangar camp, in Madaya Township.
