The junta troops opened fire with heavy weapons on Letpan Chaung village, northern Kalay town, Sagaing Region, killing 2 civilians and injuring 6 residents including childrens, at around 9:00 p.m. on March 14.
A resident told MPA that the junta troops _ from No.10 Military Advanced Training School _ near Sakhan Gyi village in northern Kalay town _ opened fire with two heavy weapons, and these two weapons exploded inside A ward and B ward of Letpan Chaung village, resulting casualties of local residents.
“Two people died on the spot. When those people went to visit the home of the Church team’s leader, a weapon fell in front of the house and both of them died on the spot, hitting the back of the head. A 9-year-old child and 16-year-old children were also injured. Six all of them were injured,” he explained.
Those killed by junta heavy weapons were 38-year-old Ko Laryan Dekar and 62-year-old Daw Mann Ngai Zuree. Among the injured, 16-year-old Man Ngai Zuli was hit in the left abdomen by a large weapon, so she is in a critical condition.
Letpan Chaung village is located about 10 miles north of Kalay town, and most Chin people live in the village. It is a village where civilian casualties often occur due to shelling by the military’s heavy weapons.
“Yesterday, these guys (junta) burned and destroyed Nan Saung Pu village. I don’t know how many houses were destroyed. Those places were occupied by the junta troops. There was no fighting, but the situation in the military is tense,” a comrade of the Kalay People’s Defense Force told MPA.
The fighting between the junta troops and the local defense forces has been fierce in the vicinity of Kalay town since February 21, and the local defense forces attacked and captured the military camps which are stationed in Kangyi village and Kan Tharyar village in the northern Kalay town.
When the junta military column re-patrolled to reoccupy the military camp in Kanthar Yar village which is captured by the local defense forces on March 10, a clash fighting took place, then 3 junta dead bodies was found, and ammunition including 24 guns was seized, according to the report of No.1 Military Region.
