A father and his daughter _ who were sleeping at night _ were reportedly killed in the explosion of heavy weapon fired by the junta on a house in Pein Pyit village in Mogok township, Mandalay Region.
The 5-mile military camp outside Mogok fired about 20 heavy weapons without any fighting at around 11:00 p.m. on January 18, according to some local residents.
“Last night, the junta troops fired howitzers and 120 (mm) heavy weapons. They fired towards the village on purpose. Many houses were destroyed in the area where were hit by the heavy weapons. The dead were a father and his daughter, who were hit by heavy weapon while they were sleeping,” said a local resident.
The dead man is a middle age person more than 30 years old, and his daughter is 7 years old, both father and his daughter are Lisu ethnicity.
The number of homes damaged by heavy weapons in Pein Pyit village is still under investigation.
“When heavy weapons were fired at night, no one look up because we were afraid. We don’t know how it was hit. The military only shoots heavy weapons toward village, but they do not enter the village. There are a lot of damaged houses in the affected area,” said a resident near Pein Pyit village.
Pein Pyit village is a village where Lisu and Palaung ethnic people live and there are more than 250 houses. Except for the house caretakers, all the villagers are reportedly fleeing.
