As the junta troops shelled Loikaw Taung Zay Market (local term)—known as Thiri Mingalar Market in Loikaw City, Karenni State—the market burned to ashes, it was reported.
Today (December 10) at around 1:10 a.m., at least four artillery shells fired by the junta troops hit Loikaw Taung Zay, a KNDF military source (KNDF, Karenni National Defense Force) said.
“They (junta troops) shelled it early in the morning today. The shells fell at 1:10 a.m., the time people slept. The fire stopped at 6:30 a.m. But the market burned to ashes,” he said.
Some of the revolutionary soldiers posted a photo of them near the Loikaw Taung Zay on social media; the junta troops found out about it, and then they may have opened fire on the market with heavy weapons, a woman near the market said.
The junta’s air plane dropped three bombs on the center of Loikaw town on the morning of December 9th, and it dropped two more bombs in the evening again, according to a resident of Loikaw.
“Yesterday, they dropped three bombs in the downtown of Loikaw City at 9:42 a.m. At 6:10 p.m., they bombed over Mingalar and Shwe Taung Wards. The junta troops are the worst because they use heavy weapons to bomb even the pagodas,” he said.
The Karenni revolutionary forces and allied forces seized a base military camp of the junmta in Loikaw City today at 9:15 a.m. MPA has investigated that it will be announced soon which base it is.
