According to the residents of Pekhon town in southern Shan State, fuel stations have less fuel stock due to the decrease in the amount of fuel imported into the town and are only selling a limited amount of fuel to the customers.
Fuel is being imported into Pekhon Town through Taung Ngoo Township, Bago Region, and only one truck of fuel bowser enters Pekhon Town every week, an employee of a fuel station in Bago Township said.
“The fuel trucks came from Taungoo. But I heard that there was a shortage of fuel on that side as well. On this side, the fuel ran out the same day as soon as it arrived. There are many people who pre-ordered, so it ran out within a day. They sell it in a limited amount,” he said.
In addition to Shan State and Karenni State bordering areas, Karenni State is also experiencing difficulties due to the scarcity of fuel for the local people as well as those working in social relief work.
“Now we can’t buy oil. Even if we can buy it, the price is too expensive, so charity drivers like us can’t go out every day,” said the driver of a social assistance associate.
Fuel sellers in Karenni State go to buy places where fuel is obtained from Shan State, so that the price of fuel in Karenni State is about two times higher than the price in Shan State.
