Two civilians were killed on the spot when a shell fired by the junta troops hit a monastery in Kyaukhtu Township, Magway Region.
The Kyauktu Artillery of the junta shelled recklessly and fell into the monastery of Pansan village near Kyauktu City at around 8:15 p.m. on November 26 and exploded, injuring an assistant monk and one civilian, according to the Yaw Ah Linn Tan, which reports local revolutionary news.
“The artillery fired two rounds with 120 mm mortar. They fell and blasted inside the monastery. The assistant monk was also injured. The monk was hit in the thigh and the abdomen. It is not serious,” said a person in charge of Yaw Ah Linn Tan.
Those who died were Thein Zaw (48 years old) and Si Thu Kyaw (33 years old) from Pasan Village, and 60-year-old Maung Hla was seriously injured, reported Yaw Ah Linn Tan.
“The artillery doesn’t always fire. They fire at random. But before, they didn’t fire near the people. They used to fire towards the forest, where they thought there were revolutionary forces,” said a resident.
Eighteen soldiers from the Kyauktu Artillery deserted between November 17th and 20th; 4 of them were recaptured by the junta army, and 14 of them are still freed.
Since the soldiers deserted, the artillery has been firing heavy weapons into the villages near Kyauktu town. Heavy artillery shells hit Yintye village, south-west of Kyauktu town, on the night of November 20th, and some houses were destroyed.
