A spokesperson of Doopalaya District Information and Release Branch says, “The artillery shell fired by the junta artillery troops exploded in An Pha Lay village in Kawkareik township, causing a monastery’s buildings destroyed and two novices injured”.
The junta artillery 312 fired heavy weapons (120 mm) at 5:30 pm yesterday, causing the four shells to explode inside the monastery of An Pha Lay village in Hlaingwa of Kawkareik township, he explained.
“Those two novices injured are not in critical condition. Now they are receiving medical treatment at the hospital,” he said.
As a result of the explosion, 16-year-old Shin Indriya was injured in his leg and 14-year-old Shin Teridda was injured in his thigh.
Locals of An Phalay village have fled to safety due to the fighting in the region and the heavy weapons fired by the military junta, and there are reportedly only a few people living in the village.
“I heard 4 or 5 weapon shots yesterday evening. I don’t know which direction the junta is firing from. They are always shooting towards the villages from Kawkareik. Later, I heard large shells hit the An Phalay monastery,” said a local who is close to An Phalay village.
Last November 20, this junta artillery reportedly fired heavy weapons, causing an explosion inside Myotaw Oo area in Ward 2 of Kawkareik township and two residents killed.
The Hlaingwa-based Artillery 312 and Infantry 97 are firing heavy weapons into villages and wards where local people live, so the locals have frequently been injured and killed these days.
