The Ministry of Commerce under the SAC announced that online sellers who fail to register within six months will be sentenced to three years in prison.
The above statement was issued on July 21, and in the statement, it is announced that the businesses that sell goods by online system are designated as important services and action will be taken according to Section (5) of the Essential Supplies and Services Law.
Some online sellers are criticizing that this statement could have a great impact on local businessmen.
“They are oppressing people in all kinds of ways. If the online sellers were controlled, they were able to get the tax and revenue. It seems to have calculated that financial support should be controlled. The people are oppressed and brutalized in every way so that people starve to death,” an online food entrepreneur commented.
Those who want to register their online selling business must fill in the specified information via online and apply for registration.
It is stated, “as for online sellers, if they are individuals, they must be 18 years of age living locally, and they must not be included in the blacklists announced by government departments and the organizations and must submit the exact address of the business”.
It is stated that if it is a company or business organization, there must be a specific name of a person established under any existing law and an official website, and the business address.
“Regarding the additional concerns caused by the announcement, the concern is that we will have to pay taxes. I would like to know if they will be divided based on the business, and then if the military wants to control K-Pay and close it. If so, I would like to know how to solve it,” an online seller said.
It is stated that by applying for such a registration certificate, if users complain, they have the right to defend themselves according to the law, the right to submit legal claims about the business, and the rights to receive payment according to the agreement value in the transaction.
The section (5) of the Essential Supplies and Services Law included in this statement is a law that can impose a minimum of six months to a maximum of three years in prison and a fine of not more than 500,000 Kyats.
Currently, the Ministry of Commerce under the SAC has announced certainly in the statement that sellers have to fill out the form when applying for a registration certificate and the registration fees and service fees will be effective within the next six months starting yesterday, without stating the exact amount of the registration fees and service fees.
