Due to the threat of the SAC’s military, about 500 local residents in Tanintharyi Region, Bokpyin Township have fled from war to the Thai side.
Nearly 500 Myanmar war refugees have arrived in Khaung Loi Village, Bang Saphan Township, Prachuap District, Thailand, which is a Myanmar-Thai border, according to those helping to flee the war.
Nearly 500 of these refugees are residents of Yadanapon (Mine) Village, Bokpyin Township, Pyigyi Mandaing Township, Kawthaung District, said one of those helping refugees.
“At first, there were only around 350, and then gradually more came out, so now there are almost 500,” he said.
On December 3rd, PDF troops attacked the border camp of the SAC in the Yadanpon area in Bokpyin Township, Pyigyi Mandaing Town, and then the SAC troops came to threaten Yadanapon (Mine) villagers and the locals were afraid of being shot and arrested, so the entire village fled.
“Now, the refugees are taking shelter in a village on the Thai-Myanmar border, but they are also worried that the military troops will come and arrest them,” said a PDF comrade from the No. 1 Battalion of the Kowthaung District, the People’s Defense Force based in Bokpyin.
Currently, although the Thai side is providing some assistance to the refugees, there is an urgent need for clothes, shelter, and food due to a large number of refugees.
