Around 1,700 civilians have been displaced and are in urgent need of medical assistance in Tilin Township, located in Gangaw District of the Magway Region, according to local residents and revolutionary forces.
At approximately 2 a.m. on Thursday, military jet fighters launched around 30 airstrikes on Ah Lel Ban Village in Tilin Township, despite the absence of any active clashes in the area. The bombings killed four civilians and injured 33 others.
“Local health workers are currently treating the injured, but we’re facing serious challenges, including the fear of further airstrikes, lack of shelter, and a shortage of medical supplies,” said a member of the Tilin Township People’s Administration Team, speaking to MPA.
The airstrikes not only caused casualties but also left most of Ah Lel Ban Village in ruins.
In the aftermath, approximately 1,700 people from Ah Kyi Ban, Ah Lel Ban, and Ah Nyar Ban villages in eastern Tilin Township fled their homes. Displaced residents are now taking shelter in makeshift tents, fields, and forested areas.
A woman from Ah Kyi Ban Village recounted, “We hide in the forest at night, afraid of more airstrikes. They bombed our village on Thursday night.”
As the hot season sets in, concerns are growing over the well-being of the displaced—especially elderly people, children, and pregnant women who are now living in the forests and mountains.
“The extreme heat is taking a toll, especially on the elderly and children,” said one local resident.
Meanwhile, the military junta has cut off phone lines in Gangaw, Tilin, Saw, and Kyaukhtu townships in the Yaw area and has intensified air and artillery attacks since Sunday.
Recent airstrikes in Gangaw Township have caused further civilian casualties and killed livestock, according to local sources.
Since mid-2022, the military has refrained from launching ground assaults in the Yaw area—a known stronghold of revolutionary forces. Instead, it has relied on artillery shelling and airstrikes to attack villages. In response, local resistance forces have blockaded supply routes to Tilin, Kyaukhtu, and Saw townships.
According to a report released Thursday by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP), the military junta has killed 6,819 people across the country since the coup on Feb.1, 2021.
