Relief organizations coordinated by UNOCHA Myanmar have delivered humanitarian aid to over three million people in the first nine months of this year.
However, with only 34% of the necessary funding for the 2024 Humanitarian Response Plan secured, critical assistance has fallen short of planned targets, posing serious challenges as the year nears its end.
A political activist based in Monywa told MPA, “The claim that three million people received assistance is questionable. Which regions and displaced communities benefited from this aid? There has been little to no significant support reported in Sagaing or Magway. Transparent details about where, when, and how many people were assisted need to be clearly provided.”
The heavy artillery shelling, airstrikes, military operations, and intense fighting have led to a record-high displacement. The UNOCHA reported that the number of internally displaced persons (IDPs) has now surpassed 3.4 million across Myanmar.
Civilian casualties keep rising amidst relentless violence. UNOCHA emphasized that humanitarian needs within Myanmar remain dire, with urgent requirements for civilian protection.
