On May 31st,around 4:00 p.m., 27 houses were burned down by the SAC troops in the Yint Ye village in Kyaukhtu Township, Gangaw District, Magway Region, burning the power lines and the nearby villages were without electricity, according to Ko Aung Gyi, in charge of Yaw Alinn Tan local news.
“They started to set fire at around 4:00 p.m. The PDFs fired heavy weapons at Kyaukhtu Camp from the woods around noon. The Kyaukhtu Camp fired back. Then at 3:00 p.m., 16 soldiers came out from the GE gate of Kyaukhtu Camp and came towards Yint Ye. It was only four furlongs away from the Kyaukhtu Camp. They burned Yint Ye intentionally,” Ko Aung Gyi told MPA.
The power lines that were damaged by the fire are the main power lines from Kyaukhtu town. Currently, the investigation revealed that the villages such as Nat Ye, Myoe Pauk, Chaung Ku, Yaw Myoe, Yint Ye, Kan Gyi, Kyan Taw, Pyin Lel, Taunt Htet and Yay Shin are experiencing power outages.
“Cooking has to go back to cooking with firewood and charcoal. It has become very difficult to charge phones. I have to save power. Pumping water and other electricity-related tasks have become quite difficult,” a resident told MPA.
It is known that the SAC has not repaired the damaged power lines yet, and the residents said that they have only heard the news that the relevant EPC will come and repair them.
An initial investigation revealed that a 65-year-old man from Yint Ye village, who was paralyzed and unable to walk, died in the fire due to the arson of the SAC troops.
