Min Aung Hlaing, the leader of the military coup, spoke at the meeting of the Central Committee for the Small and Medium- sized Enterprises Development (1/2023) that the people have to work only with their owned plan to get electricity.
The leader of the military coup had informed that he wants to use Bio Gasifiers and solar systems to produce electricity, with owned programs according to Regions and States.
“It’s a small job that we started after the military coup. It’s a home factory with only about 20 workers. Since the start of the project, the electricity provided by the government has not been received regularly. Since the beginning, I had to arrange the lights and work by myself to get electricity. Of course, we have to operate the generator. The price of oil has gone up, and there are not many jobs,” said a woman who runs a small sewing business in South Dagon Township.
Currently, the SAC has told people to work only with their owned plan to obtain electricity. Last April, the Yangon Electric Power Corporation under the Military Council also announced that it would buy back excess electricity from the people.
“It’s the same as telling the people to light a candle that it is “Do it themselves with peoples’ owned plan. The fire is not as bad as before, but now the fire is not right. It is being as a government, so saying like this is irresponsible. The people (Min Aung Hlaing) who forced the people to work for electricity with their owned plans, told that he will continue to run the electricity cars and electricity trains,” said a resident of Yangon’s Tharkata Township.
Min Aung Hlaing, the leader of the military coup, told that during the military coup in 2021, Nay Pyi Taw would run a subway system and electric buses.
However, the military leader has admitted that since April 2023, the need for electricity is their biggest challenge.
“People are not using electricity for free. We are using it after paying the bill. They (SAC) can’t even do this correctly, so it’s too irresponsible. As for the electricity bill, they worked and read as they thought. We have to pay according to the unit they read,” said a local in Hlaing Thaya Township, Yangon.
The SAC also said that electricity is an essential input in manufacturing products, and are making an effort to obtain electricity.
“The lights are not right now. It’s just broken. I’m just working on my own plan. Just having a candle is fine. There is also charcoal for cooking,” said a resident of Yangon.
More than 2 years ago, in February 2021, after the overthrow of the civilian government and the military’s seizure of power, the country has been facing shortages of electricity that is a basic necessity, as well as the departure of international investments, and the security of the people and the economic disruptions.
On May 24th, a hip-hop singer, Byuhar was also arrested for he criticized the military leader, Min Aung Hlaing, and the Ministry of Electricity on his social media, due to the SAC could not provide regularly electricity.
