Myanmar Pressphoto Agency (MPA) Video Journalist Hmue Yadanar Khet Moh Moh Tun, who was seriously injured in the head when the SAC troops drove a car into the youth who peacefully protested the military coup, was sentenced to 10 years in prison under Article 50 (j) of the Terrorism Act by the Thingungyun District Court.
“She was sentenced to 10 years in prison under 50(j). The lawsuit is based on Ma Hmue Yadanar’s donation posts on her social network and her KBZ Pay account in and out. The prosecution’s evidence cannot be substantiated. Our side also refused to accept it, but she was sentenced to prison,” Advocate Daw Zin Mar Oo representing Hmue Yadanar told MPA.
On the morning of December 5, 2021, five young people were seriously injured and 15 people were arrested after the SAC forces hit the anti-dictatorship strike by car and arrested them on Pan Pin Gyi Road, Kyee Myin Daing Township.
The journalist who was arrested in that incident, Hmue Yadanar Khet Moh Moh Tun, was sued by Tamwe Township Police Station Commander San Win Aung and filed a lawsuit in the Thingungyun District Court.
It is said that the order for 50 (j) has been passed by the District Judge’s Office, the Thing Gyun District Court.
“Journalists should not be jailed. It shouldn’t be more that anyone who uses Kpay for online shopping is accused of supporting the revolution and prosecuted. Prosecuting journalists prohibits on freedom of the press, and they should be released as soon as possible,” Journalist Ma Thuzar, told MPA.
The normal injuries sustained by Hmue Yadanar Khet Moh Moh Tun when she was arrested have healed, but three bones in her left leg were broken, so she had to be replaced with steel bones.
Advocate U Khin Maung Myint told MPA that the decision was made today in coordination with the court, as she will be examined by orthopedic specialists at Insein Public Hospital on May 30 to show the condition of her replaced leg bone.
It was known that Journalist Hmue Yadanar Khet Moh Moh Tun, who was charged under Article 505-A and Section 50(j) of terrorism, did not want to appeal the charges.
Therefore, all the cases filed have been completed and she will not continue to appeal.
In December 2022, Hmue Yadanar Khet Moh Moh Tun was sentenced to three years in prison under Section 505-A of the Penal Code. Today, on May 26, she was sentenced to 10 years in prison under Section 50 (j) of the Terrorism Act, making a total of 13 years in prison.
Journalist Hmue Yadanar Khet Moh Moh Tun has only five months and 20 days left to serve her sentence for being charged with 505-A, and only if she is released from that case, she will be in prison for Section 50 (j) of terrorism.
