It is reported that there is a ceasefire in Rakhine, but the local people are suffering from the danger of landmines.
In Rakhine, during this year, two people, including a child, have been killed and three children have been injured.
On Jan. 26, four teenage Rohingya children from Phoe Khaung Chaung Village, Buthidaung Township, were gathering firewood on a mountain near the village when a landmine exploded, killing one ten-year-old and injuring three others.
“That place was where the Myanmar Military was camping. Soldiers often come and go there, but the children don’t know, so they get trampled on it,” a Rohingya from Phoe Khaung Chaung village told the MPA.
In addition, on Jan. 27, on the mountain near Phar Pyo Village, Minbya Township, the people of Phar Pyo Village said that a 50-year-old man named U Than Shwe Maung from Phar Pyo Village died when he was hit by a landmine this morning.
According to the local residents, the areas where the local people are stepping on landmines and getting injured are the places where the SAC troops are stationed near the residential villages.
During the two-sided ceasefire in Rakhine, the people of Rakhine are demanding the withdrawal of SAC troops and camps that have been stationed in residential villages, religious places, and public places.
In addition, the local people are demanding that mine clearance be made mandatory in the areas where the camps were lived and in the vicinity of the residential villages.
In Rakhine, the Arakan Army (AA) and the SAC Military suddenly called a cease-fire on Nov. 26, but the local people have been suffering from frequent casualties due to the danger of landmines.
