In the markets of Yangon, the coriander price rose up to 30,000 kyats per viss.
A greengrocer in the night market said that coriander has risen from 8,000 kyats per viss in the past to 20,000 kyats to 30,000 kyats a viss, making it even more expensive than the price of meat and fish.
“The coriander price has become higher than the price of meat and fish. Now even at Danyingone market, you have to buy it for almost twenty thousand per viss. Now you have to buy it for at least five hundred and sell it. There have about four plants,” he said.
Currently, while the price of chicken is between 12,000 Kyats and 14,000 Kyats per viss, the price of coriander is between 20,000 Kyats and 30,000 Kyats per viss, which may be due to the lack of coriander due to a lot of benefaction and weddings in Yangon.
As the price of a bunch of coriander has risen to five hundred kyats in local markets, many Yangon Mohinga shops no longer offer coriander, said a Mohinga seller in Pabetan Township. (Mohinga – rice noddles with gravy – Burmese Traditional Food)
He said that since last November 7, some Mohinga shops in the townships of Yangon have started using only long beans instead of coriander, and the price of a bunch of coriander has risen to three hundred kyats.
“The price of coriander has really gone up. Now one plant is worth 200 kyats. Before, it cost 100 for a bunch. Now, even if you buy it for 500 kyats, you only have four plants,” he continued.
On the evening and night of last November 13, the MPA’s ground reporter confirmed that there were no sales of coriander plants in Yangon’s Mingalar Taung Nyunt Night Market, Seikkan Thar Street Market, Gwa Market, and some township market stalls.
