The Karenni State Education Minister announced today that lessons inconsistent with Federal democracy in interim community-based schools in Karenni State will omit, and will use a mother tongue-based multilingual education (MTB MLE) system.
It is known that the interim education will focus on the development of students’ imagination and ability, history and social studies will be reviewed and amendments will be made.
“In our interim education, we will no longer teach students to subjects that are not in line with federal democracy. Among the textbooks, we used to know about before, especially about history. What is written in their book does not suit the local ethnic people at all. For that, we will omit a history subject. Other social topics will be re-taught right there. In Burmese history, it is not about Burmese leaders, but it is a teaching type about replacing our own history and our own society in the ethnic areas, the Minister of Education Khu Plu Reh said.
The Mother Tongue Multilingual Education (MTB-MLE) system will be used for interim community-based basic education in Karenni State. It is known that the teachers who are teaching the people at the interim public school are being threatened by the terrorist SAC troops. “We will be teaching native languages from KG to Grade-10. The terrorist SAC threatened the teachers who were teaching the children with weapon. Teachers are also teaching in fear.”, the Minister of Education Khu Plu Reh said.
According to a statement from the Karenni Government, more that 90 percent of students in Karenni State do not enroll in schools run by the terrorist SAC.
