The Myanmar military conducted aerial bombings in Yesagyo Township, Magway Region, on Wednesday night, killing a local woman and displacing thousands of civilians.
According to the Yesagyo Township Information Committee (YTIC), two airstrikes hit areas east of Zee Pin Kone and south of Sin Ma Yae Village around 9:30 p.m. A woman from Sin Ma Yae Village was fatally struck in the head by shrapnel from one of the blasts.
“We’ve only confirmed that she was killed by shrapnel to the head. We’re still gathering more information,” a YTIC official told MPA.
The attack followed multiple airstrikes earlier in the week, including three on Zee Pin Kone Village—one during the day and two at night on Monday—and another nighttime strike on Ah Lel Thaung Village. The full extent of casualties and damage from those strikes is still under assessment.
In a related escalation, around 150 junta troops from Pakokku-based Light Infantry Division 101 and Infantry Battalions 256, 257, and 258 raided Ba La Ba Village on Sunday. The troops shelled homes, looted property, and burned houses over a two-day period, leaving the entire village in ruins.
At least 11 nearby villages—Kyu, Sin Kyoe, Ywar Thit, Nyaung Pin, Kyaw Htin Kone, Ma Htee, Inn Ma, Nga Myar Lay, Lay Yar Pyayt, Sin Ma Yae, and Ngar Pei—have seen mass displacements. Airstrikes also forced residents to flee from Hin Thar, Ah Lel Thaung, Ah Lel Kyaw, and Zee Pin Kone.
“An estimated 6,000 people have been displaced. They’ve lost everything—homes, livelihoods, food security. Many fled with only the clothes on their backs,” the YTIC official said.
“Local people’s administration groups are doing what they can to assist.”
Although the military column reportedly withdrew toward Pakokku on Wednesday evening, most displaced residents remained unable to return.
