The Myanmar military junta carried out airstrikes on two villages in Magway Region’s Pakokku Township on Wednesday, killing a woman and injuring four others.
Around 4:30 p.m., military jets dropped two bombs and opened fire with machine guns on Ywar Thit Su Village, wounding two men. Shortly after, three bombs were dropped on nearby Se Pin Su Village, killing a woman who was feeding cows and injuring two more men.
“The military deliberately targeted the villages—some victims were struck even inside their homes. The woman who died was outside tending to cows when the bomb hit. One man was injured in the leg, another in the waist,” said a member of the Kamma Rural Zone People’s Defense Team.
He added that the injured are not in critical condition.
The attack also destroyed two houses in Ywar Thit Su and one in Se Pin Su. Two cows were killed in the blasts.
This assault came despite the junta’s announcement of a temporary nationwide ceasefire extension from April 23 to 30, purportedly to support ongoing earthquake relief efforts. Airstrikes and bombings, however, continue unabated across the country.
