The Three Brotherhood Alliance—comprising the Arakan Army (AA), Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA), and Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA)—has announced a one-month unilateral ceasefire to support humanitarian aid efforts in the aftermath of Friday’s devastating earthquake.
In a joint statement issued on Tuesday, the alliance said the ceasefire would be in effect from 1 to 30 April to allow for the swift and unhindered delivery of aid to affected communities.
The statement noted that the powerful 7.7 magnitude earthquake and its aftershocks had caused widespread loss of life and destruction across several regions, including Sagaing, Mandalay, Bago, Shan State, and Naypyidaw. Damage extended to homes, religious structures—including mosques—and irreplaceable cultural heritage sites.
The alliance said the ceasefire aims to ensure the safe and effective distribution of urgently needed humanitarian aid and to facilitate the operations of both domestic and international aid workers and volunteers engaged in rescue and relief efforts.
The groups pledged to halt offensive operations in conflict zones involving the military junta but affirmed they would continue to respond in self-defense if attacked.
