A military junta airstrike on Chaung-U Township in Sagaing Region has killed six civilians and injured many others, according to initial reports.
Residents said the attack took place around midnight on Tuesday, when a jet fighter and paramotors targeted a village in the northeastern part of the township.
A resident from the northeastern part of Chaung-U Township told MPA, “They attacked with a jet fighter first, followed by two paramotors launched from Monywa Airbase to carry out additional strikes. The fighter jet struck once, while the paramotors dropped bombs three times. There was no ongoing fighting in the area. We don’t know what intelligence led them to this attack or what prompted it. We still lack precise details.”
In addition to the airstrikes, heavy artillery was fired from the junta’s Myapale checkpoint, located on the Monywa-Chaung-U road, targeting the same area.
The military junta had also conducted airstrikes using a Y-12 aircraft on Feb. 13 and 14, striking Nyaung Hpyu Pin, Thit Seint, and Ma Yoe Kone villages in Monywa Township, as well as the Kula Gyi village displacement camp in Chaung-U Township. According to the Monywa-Amyint Road Strike Committee, these attacks killed 13 civilians and injured many others.
