The Myanmar military junta has deployed troops in Yone Si Gyi Village, Taungtha Township, Mandalay Region, following a series of airstrikes.
Reports indicate that the entire population has been forced to flee, seeking safety from the escalating violence.
The village was bombed six times by military jets and Mi-35 helicopters between 3:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. on Monday. A resident near Yone Si Gyi Village reported that around 100 junta troops from Meiktila-based Light Infantry Division 99 entered the village and stationed themselves at the monastery as of Wednesday.
“The military column entered the village around 6:30 p.m., forcing all residents to flee. The village consists of approximately 1,800 households,” the source told MPA.
According to the People’s Strike Committee – Taungtha, the airstrikes ignited a fire that destroyed the Wai Gyi grocery store. The store is owned by retired Colonel Kyaw Kyaw Oo and his sister, Daw Lwin Lwin, who serves as the Director-General of the Anti-Corruption Commission in Naypyidaw.
Junta soldiers reportedly seized the remaining goods from the grocery store before their departure.
“The grocery store owners also fled,” the source added.
The airstrikes injured a monk and a man, while a two-story monastery building and two vehicles used by the monks sustained damage.
