Junta troops have conducted a two-week-long raid in Palaw Township, Tanintharyi Region, displacing around 5,000 residents. Reports indicate that the offensive has forced civilians to leave their homes amidst escalating conflict and insecurity in the region.
The junta’s military column entered Palaw Township on October 14. Since then, approximately 5,000 residents from Kye, Settawyar, Tapo, Zayat Seik, Minpyin, Baingpyin, Kade, and Meinmamyo Villages have fled, according to the Myeik District Battalion-1.
“There have been incidents of junta soldiers burning down villages and arresting civilians, but the exact numbers have yet to be confirmed,” Yebaw Arnold, the information officer from the Myeik District Battalion 1 told MPA.
Daily clashes have erupted between October 14 and November 1, with the military also conducting airstrikes.
“The death toll and injuries on the junta side may exceed 100,” the source continued.
Palaw Township, a stronghold of resistance forces, sees frequent intense and prolonged fighting, according to an October 16 report by FE5 Tanintharyi, a research group in the Tanintharyi region.
MPA could not independently verify the death and injury toll among soldiers.
