Myanmar’s military junta launched a record 37 airstrikes in Shan State during September, the highest number of air raids in the country that month.
Shan State experienced 37 airstrikes conducted by the junta in September, which marks the highest number nationwide. Out of the 153 airstrikes carried out across the country in September, 28 each targeted Sagaing Region and Rakhine State, marking them as the second highest, as reported by the National Unity Government’s Ministry of Human Rights.
“The junta’s main target in Shan State is Lashio. Min Aung Hlaing is just a vindictive loser since nearly all airstrikes in Shan State targeted civilians. The Myanmar military’s killing of its people has been tied to China’s benefits, so they’re applauding. Meanwhile, the international community just keeps watching, leaving Min Aung Hlaing to do as he pleases,” a Lashio-based revolutionary said to MPA.
The military airstrikes have resulted in 233 civilian deaths and 447 injuries, with the destruction of 337 houses, 10 schools, 23 religious buildings, and one hospital.
Additionally, there were 16 incidents of mass killings by the junta army, with a total of 179 people killed, most of them in Rakhine State.
During September, the military committed a total of 637 human rights violations with Sagaing Region being the hardest hit, seeing 101 recorded cases.
