The military junta conducted an airstrike near the Shwe Myin Nitkaung factory in the Maehan village tract, Lashio Township, northern Shan State, dropping five bombs and resulting in the death of one civilian.
The bombing, which occurred at around 1:00 PM today (25 October), caused extensive damage to numerous buildings, including the Shwe Myin Nitkaung factory. A civilian riding a motorcycle was killed when one of the bombs struck the area, according to an announcement from the Lashio Restoration Committee.
“There have already been five bombings in a single day. It is terrifying, and we are constantly running in and out of bomb shelters, which is exhausting. If this continues, I might end up with a heart condition,” said a local resident, as reported by the Lashio Restoration Committee.
The military has reportedly carried out nearly 30 airstrikes on non-military targets in Lashio since August, with no justifiable reason for the attacks.
“The junta is using a strategy of terrorizing the people by collaborating with China to keep the regime from collapsing. Now, China has closed all the border gates, worsening the situation for the people of Myanmar who are already facing food shortages,” a resistance fighter based in Lashio told MPA.
On 23 October, the military also bombed Khosantan village in the Maehan village tract, hitting a rice alcohol distillery.
