Anti-junta resistance forces struck a bomb storage facility at Taungoo Air Base in Bago Region with a short-range rocket, reportedly injuring several junta soldiers. The targeted facility housed 500-pound bombs, according to initial reports from the scene.
Three 107mm short-range rockets were fired at the Taungoo Air Base, with two successfully hitting their targets on the night of October 20 at around 8:30 PM, according to a statement from Brave Warriors for Myanmar (BWM) released early on October 21.
“Our main objective was the bomb storage facility housing 500-pound bombs. In response, junta troops fired back with three artillery rounds and multiple small arms, but their retaliatory fire was so haphazard that they couldn’t pinpoint the origin of our rocket launch,” a BWM source told MPA.
Reports confirmed that junta soldiers were injured in the attack, and three ambulances were seen evacuating the wounded from the airbase.
“An ambulance arrived at around 9:00 PM, shortly after the rockets struck. We don’t know the destination of the injured, but all our comrades safely returned to their bases,” the source added.
The Taungoo Air Base is a vital military stronghold for the junta, used to launch air raids against revolutionary forces in Karen, Karenni, and Southern Shan States, according to BWM.
The attack was carried out by the NSA31 Urban Guerrilla Force in coordination with the Sit Taung Basin Yedashe Guerrilla Force under BWM’s command. This is not the first time the airbase has been targeted; on August 20, revolutionary forces killed two Air Force officers and seriously injured six others in a similar operation.
