The junta’s offensive to regain control of Ngan Myar Gyi Village in Ngazun Township, Mandalay region, has been thwarted by strong resistance from local People’s Defense Forces (PDF).
Around 200 junta troops moved from Ngazun town toward Ngan Myar Gyi on October 8, engaging in clashes with PDF forces from October 10 to 14. Following the fighting, the troops have been stranded in Don Din Village, according to local resistance fighters.
“They’re determined to retake Ngan Myar Gyi because it’s a strategic area linking Ngazun with Si Mee Khon,” a PDF member told MPA.
Don Din village, where the military is currently stationed, is just over a mile from Ngan Myar Gyi, with Moe Taung Village lying between them.
Both sides have sustained casualties during the clashes, with the resistance forces also seizing ammunition from the military.
“In the first attack, around 15 soldiers were killed. There have been additional casualties since, and they’ve retreated to fortify their positions instead of advancing,” the PDF source added.
The military’s convoy has forced over 2,000 residents from seven villages, including Moe Taung, to flee.
The junta has frequently launched airstrikes on Ngan Myar Gyi since PDF forces took control of the local police station on August 19.
