Natmauk Market Set on Fire at Night Time and Culprit Unidentified
By MPA
Nearly the entire Natmauk market was set on fire on November 13 night in Magway region’s Natmauk township and no reason has been known, said an official from Magway region Fire Department who was working on clearance and extinguishing the fire.
The fire began at 9:30 November 13 and was extinguished at 11:30 at night and clearance operations are being carried out till now.
As it was burnt during the night curfew time, locals criticized that it was probably done by the terrorist military.
The local residents’ help to put the fire out as it started was also deterred by the terrorist military.
“To put it out early, we dared not go as they were sticking around with guns. The fire fighters came when the fire was already out of control and we could only help then. It was beyond control by then”, a resident near Natmauk market said.
Hundreds of stalls were burnt down in the fire and neither the reason nor the total damage has been reported by the fire department.
“Clearances are ongoing till now. Why it was set on fire and list of total damage have not yet arrived to us”, said one Magway fire department official to MPA.
An official from Natmauk fire department also said, “We cannot tell yet how many shops were burnt. We’re still clearing it up now. We’re still there till now”, he said.
According to a confirmation from a Natmauk resident, three-quarters of the market and a total of 240 shops were gone in the fire.
Natmauk city market is the main market not only for Natmauk town residents but also for over 290 villages within Natmauk township.
Last May also, Shwebo city market was set on fire and nearly the entire market was damaged.
In Yangon as well, the terrorist military-owned Ruby Mart and two Gandama Wholesales Centers on Waizayantar road were set on fire during night curfew times with no identified culprits.
This was criticized by the public as merely a pre-planned set-up by the terrorist military for CNN reporter’s Myanmar visit.
